Some of that involved working with the homeless and seeing how it easy it was for people to fall through the cracks. “But part of it was trying to talk about the people who fall through the cracks…Working with Comic Relief. “Neverwhere was a way of talking about two things… I love the life of cities and I have an obsession with cities,” Gaiman reflected two years ago. He published, then extensively revised, a novel adaptation and, in 2013, oversaw a radio play with James McAvoy as Richard, Natalie Dormer as Door and Benedict Cumberbatch in the Capaldi role of the Angel. ![]() Of all his works it is the one that seems to speak to him most personally. Broadcast On Saturday 16 March 2013, 1 BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra broadcast the first, hour-long, episode of Neverwhere. ![]() ![]() Yet he could never quite leave Neverwhere behind. Neverwhere is a radio drama based on the 1996 novel Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. Gaiman would go on to become the pre-eminent fantasy writer of his generation. ![]()
